The CH4 abundance in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere

چکیده
Hydrocarbon species, and in particular CH$_4$, play a key role the stratosphere--thermosphere boundary of Jupiter, which occurs around $\mu$-bar pressure level. Previous analyses solar occultation, He Ly-$\alpha$ airglow, ISO/SWS measurements radiance 3.3 $\mu$m have inferred significantly different methane concentrations. Here we aim to accurately model CH$_4$ at measured by using comprehensive non-local thermodynamic equilibrium most recent collisional rates laboratory for shed new light onto concentration upper atmosphere Jupiter. These emission bands been shown present peak contribution precisely level, hence directly probing region interest. We find that high is necessary explain data, contrast with analyses, observations favour lower limit latest relaxation rates. Our results provide precise constraints on composition dynamics

Waves in Pluto’s Upper Atmosphere
Observations of the 2007 March 18 occultation of the star P445.3 (2UCAC 25823784; R = 15.3) by Pluto were obtained at high time resolution at five sites across the western United States and reduced to produce light curves for each station using standard aperture photometry. Global models of Pluto’s upper atmosphere are fitted simultaneously to all resulting light curves. The results of these mo...
متن کاملNonlinear internal waves in the upper atmosphere
This paper considers the large-scale dynamics generated in the upper atmosphere by the destabilization of a linear internal gravity wave and its eventual restabilization through nonlinear processes into a coherent pattern. The assumption of a strongly dissipative medium is relevant to wave propagation in the thermosphere range above 100 km. A parametric instability analysis is carried out invol...
متن کاملMars: upper atmosphere.
The thermal structure of the upper atmosphere of Mars has been theoretically investigated. The exospheric temperature, for a pure CO(2) model atmosphere, lies between 400 degrees and 700 degrees K. The origin of the Martian atmosphere is discussed in the light of these results.
متن کاملInfrared Scattering Observations in the Upper Atmosphere
Observations of sky emission and absorption in the far infrared (mean wavelength 120 /•) and, simultaneously, sky emission at wavelength 6 • have been made by P. Kuhn (ESSA): from the NASA CV-990 aircraft flying at 12-km altitude over the middle Pacific at latitudes 10ø-15øN. A lack of correlation between the nearand far-infrared data, especially during times of visible cirrus cloud cover above...
متن کاملHydrogen Abundance in Jupiter ' s Atmosphere 1 , ~
Spectra of Jupiter showing the (4-0) S (1) hydrogen quadrupole line at 6367.80 A have been used to derive the amount of hydrogen contributing to the formation of the line : 75 ~-15 kin-arm, neglecting scattering. This and measurements by other authors are used to test whether the C/H ratio for Jupiter's atmosphere is equal to the solar value. ~NTRODUCTION The main constituents of Jupiter's atmo...
